meet lucious

Lucious Crawford is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and forward-thinking composer who pushes the boundaries of modern music by blending elements of funk, jazz, soul, and disco into a sound that is both timeless and boldly experimental. He began his career rooted in straight-ahead jazz, and at just 17 years old released Ballads N' Blues—a heartfelt tribute to the standards that shaped his earliest musical journey. It was said about Crawford by music reviewer Dave Schnieier that he was "one of the most talented saxophone players I’ve heard in years" and "sounds like a jazz veteran to invoke a throwback sound." Crawford also produces house music, under the producer name lucrian..mode. His house music blends jazz and modern production in a tightly wrapped, danceable rhythm.

Crawford in his saxophone playing gathers inspiration from the likes of Hank Mobley, James Spaulding, Wayne Shorter, and others, but his instrumentation is more inspired by the likes of Eddie Harris and Dexter Gordon. Following the success of that debut, Crawford ventured into new sonic territory, embracing synthesizers and electric instrumentation as he carved a path into the world of electric and experimental jazz. He has played at Silvana, The Howard Theatre, Smalls Jazz Club, Sid Gold's Request Room, and various downtown restaurants , and has had the opportunity to jam with incredible musicians such as Benny Benack III, Rashaan Salaam, and Samara Joy.

He is now in pre-production for his next project, Blujazmin, poised to further expand his artistic horizons and redefine his musical identity.
